The 'Drum-atic' Comeback !

Wowie ! Its been a super 6 months since the last blog post.
Can't really blame myself, because I was tied my up with a small internship with Maruti Suzuki in Kondhwa, Pune and then exams came rolling in. Big fiasco, later on that.

So I enrolled for drum classes. For me, percussion is akin to musical ambrosia.
The guy who teaches me a complete buzzard with heavy jazz inclinations. So mostly all the stuff i've learnt has been more or less 'jazzy' - not that i'm complaining !

Then we moved on to more variations - Waltz, Funk, Disco and Salsa beats. Then came the rolls (interlude between beats). That was a lil' difficult ! Getting back to the tempo of the beat one plays after completing a roll requires some practise. Also, it is paramount to maintain a constant tempo while playing (duh!) which I still lack. Tend to play like the-best-drummer-ever, and off goes the tempo.
Many YouTube videos, have told me to play a beats for prolonged periods, using a Metronome. It helps maintain tempo and gives a constant count.

So after a few months, I happened to meet a long lost acquaintance who was ready to loan his drum kit. So I finally had a drum kit which was 'mine' - well temporarily.
And because of space and sound constraints I had to keep it at a friends empty room.
The friend was an amateur guitarist, so it was fun jamming. Nevermind the fact, that we were really bad. No seriously, REALLY BAD !

I did use the kit for almost a month, and felt really nice about it. I had more or less decided to buy one for myself now.

But bah, the ever-so-annoying exams came around. Got about studying for them, and drums became a rarity in my life.
These are one set exams I might remember for some time to come. For one thing, the University had messed them up. They ended up mixing the old and new course syllabus into one paper. People were highly shaken, they couldn't answer almost half the paper !
On protesting, we were told to write as much as we could and leave the rest to the University.
The results are expected anytime soon, so lets wait and watch now.

And in other news, i've secured an internship at a mechanical seals and systems company. Luckily enough, i'm in the Design and R&D department ! Man, R&D work is superbly exciting !
Its been almost a month in the cold office (temperatures fall to 18 degrees here), and all seems to move smoothly.

Coming back to my original love, percussion, I plan to restart my drumming and hopefully buy a kit sometime soon !

Current State of Mind: Death of a distant family member, Malgudi Days, Cleaning, Songs from 'Aashiqui' and 'Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi' (highly reccomended !)
