The Importance of Nothing

For a past couple of days I have been doing nothing. Yes, nothing. Lets not get into the details.

So, how I do pass my time ? Listen to music and watch movies. Ha, awesome!

Symptoms of nothing-doing include - 4 hours of sleep (out of 24 hours), surfeiting food, umkempt hair, facial hair and zaftigism.

Talking about movies, I got a line-up of some really brilliant ones. Mostly movies which were on my to-watch list. The coveted list includes : Scent of a Woman, Garden State, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Mulholland Drive, Snatch, Annie Hall, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Killing, Matchstick Men, Fargo, Children of Men, After Hours and many more.

My hands, ears and eyes and quite busy watching these brilliant movies. And a mention to the randomness and eccentricity of Stanley Kubrick. Seriously, the opening scene (literally) of 'A Clockwork Orange' is quite, erm, bold so to say. Along with 'The Killing' and 'Full Metal Jacket', I've become a Kubrick fan!
Guy Ritchie also caught my attention. 'Lock Stock....' and 'Snatch' are again two great ensemble movies. Guy is almost the king of cunning plots, fast pace, quirky editing, ensemble casts and slick presentation. (Why Madonna, Guy ? Why?)
Oh yeah, even Scorsese, Martin Scorsese. Smoooooth.

Switch.

The headphones are also blaring the music of Eric Clapton, Mark Knofler, John Lee Hooker and BB King. These guys are what I call musicians, excellent musicians. They provide me with some solace after heavy doses of Trivium, Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom, Kalmah and like.
Also got a copy of a AR Rahman's 'Vande Mataram' and 'Jana Gana Mana'. I guess there is no need to comment / blog about these albums. :s

Thus this is how I've been spending the last few days. Ah, bliss !

What the FLAC ?

I just found a couple of FLACs and Background music scores of His Highness A.R. Rahman.
The list includes : Saathiya, Yuva, Hindustani,Swades,Guru,Dil Se and a few more.

FLACs are basically huge music files which can be compressed without any losses. The usual MP3,WMA, AAC formats decrease in quality during compression.

Talking about the Background scores of the above mentioned movies, well, its disappointing.
The BG scores are usually not given their due, especially in Hindi-language movies. Seriously, however good the score, there is hardly a mention of it.

Although, Ram Gopal Verma is one director I know who puts the BG score into a bit of prominence, especailly in his horror flicks. Immediate names hitting the head are Dwarak Warrier and the Merchant brothers, Salim-Sulieman.
Their repertoire includes movies like : Dor, Naina, Kaal, Bhoot, Being Cyrus, Darna Zaroori Hain, Kaun?, Ab Tak Chappan, Jungle et al.

OK, these are some movies which didn't exactly fill the producers pockets, but looking at them from a 'sound' perspective, they are brilliant !
Horror flicks are very obviously highly dependent on sound, and the these are some guys I think, do a freakin' amazing job as Sound Engineers. ( Sound Design is a more preferred term nowadays, thank Resul Pookutty for that.)

Coming back to Rahman, his BG music isn't appealing. He simply takes a small tune / beat from one the songs of the movie are loops them.... he will 'bastardise' them to an extent. That is one big crib regarding Rahman.

P.S. : H. Sridhar is highly missed, after listening to the disastrous OST of Rahman's latest offering, 'Blue' (rather 'Bloo')

'What's Your Raashee ?' Moosic Review

Hmm.. Umm Hmm.. Wow... Whatt ?? ... ... :-| ... Accha... Not Bad...

These were the reactions when I heard the music of Gowariker's latest moovie 'What's Your Rashee?' starring Hurman Baweja and ^Priyanka Chopra^.

Javed ' Takkaloos' Akhtar gives words to the really simple and excessively different music by
Sohail Sen. [The latest addition to a great new breed of Hindi music composers].

The album has 13 songs, a song for the 12 Zodiacs each, and one (for lack of better title) 'Title' song.

Along with Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan we have a bunch of (not so) new singers including Sohail Sen (the composer himself), Bhavya Pandit, Tarannum Malik, Bela Shende, Rajab Ali Bharti, and, *hold your breath* Aslesha and Ashutosh Gowariker. WTF?

'Maanunga Maanunga' makes Ashutosh exercise his vocal chords. Not much of a song though, just sounds like a epilogue with some beats and drama added to it.

Aslesha (sister, Ashutosh Gowariker) on 'Aa Le Chal' is bright. Quite a voice for a lady of her age.
Harman Baweja also makes his presence felt on this song, thankfully with only a few words.

'Pal Pal Jisko Dhonde', 'Jao Na' , 'Aaja Leherate', provide a exzcellent start to the album. 'Pal Pal...' and 'Jao Na' are really melodic songs, without much 'music' !

Sohail Sen ups the tempo with 'Aaja Leherate', which i think is the one of the best songs on the album. The 'zukku zukka, wakhau whakka' beats are quite good. The build up to the end are niecly done. Though the abrupt end to the song is suprising.

'Sau Janam' is sooo reminiscent of the songs of the 80s and early 90s. The lazy beats, the little guitar whizz, the resonating background voices and the merging of the female and male tracks.
Freakily enough, we have Udit Narayan (great songster of the early 90s) and even more freaky is the fact that Madhushree sounds exactly like Sadhana Sargam in the song.

Bela Shende does well on the Hindi-Gujurati number 'Suu Chhe' <>

'Salone Kya' and 'Dhadkan Dhadkan' are the 'now' music. They resemble the music which is the rage nowadays, offbeat music i.e. the whole rigmarole of Quick change of beats, weird sounds et al.

The album ends on a upbeat but sad note with 'Koi Jaane Na' and 'Chehre Jo dekhe hain' ( the aforementioned 'Title' song).

All in all, its definitely worth a listen for it eccentricity. Ka-ching.
P.S. : Thank You XdR and DDR.

Humble-Paav

So, this morning, D and me went for Misal-Paav at a local 'bhuvan' (amrutulay, if you say so).
Now this place is situated bang in the middle of a Timber/ Wood market. In effect, many daily wage labourers 'hang out' at this bhuvan. Table-sharing too is quite common here.

Now, me and D enter the bhuvan. Hustle-bustle. Finally find a table with one dude occupying it. By not being judgemental, the dude was kinda scraggly with the dusty clothes et al.

Dude was almost done eating his misal-paav, when I sat next to him, and D, opposite me.
We ordered our stuff (2 Misal-Paav, Batata Bhaji and Chaa) and chomped away.

From the corner of my eye I noticed Dude just sitting looking here and there, mind you, he had had his Misal-Paav. I tried not noticing him, clandestine was I, he was just sitting there, scratching his head, looking here and there, nonchalance extereme !

Bah, paid no heed. Gleefully I completely my Misal-Paav and asked for the bill. (Check is a non-existent term out here)

Now, this incident amazed me !
As the bill was paid, D and me got up and stood near the entrance. Dude also quietly got up after us and left. I was stunned !

This guy actually waited for me and D to finish our Misal, and only then did he proceed to leave. This, from a man, who by his looks was a daily wage labourer.
Otherwise, in an ideal scenario, as the person adjacent satiates his stomach, he'll excuse you.
Well, not in this case.

This whole incident quite got me thinking. Ha, the Humble-Paav.

And Here.... We..... GGO

Here I enter the blog world. TADAAA !

I'm not great with writing, just great at Randomness and even more Random musings. Hence I land on Planet Blog. HA!

I always thought bloggers were retards. That being said, i'm one too now.
Blogging, seriously, is awesome. Its a great platform to express your thoughts, musings, fundas, sentiments, feelings, stupidity, naivety, knowledge and *wait for it* Awesomeness.

So, what is this blog about ? - Nothing in General, just random Randomness which can be classified into BS at times.

(Note : These statements are based on the authors current frame of mind, which are currently influenced by Papayas, Coffee and Sasha Fierce.)

So, as The Joker said, " And, Here.... We.... GGo... "
